Trondheim adventures

It was my birthday last weekend, and we had decided to go an adventure in a new and exciting place. Based on the sunny weather all over the place, one would think that's a wonderful idea. Booked months in advance, and for way too much money, we unerringly managed to find the only rainy place in all of Europe - Trondheim, Norway:

Our friend S has been living there for a few years now and it was time that we came over for a weekend. Anyway. Not to be deterred by a little bit of wet weather, a fun time was had by all.

On Sunday, we headed to a little hut out in the wilderness (here, I think), which S knew to be amenable to a retro-reservation through a local outdoor student society owing to a complete lack of lock and keys. Taagaabu was an awesome place:

The girls loved the outhouse, which is marked by a pole pointing down straight above it. In the guest book, there were notes of some people who had used this post to dig down 7ft into the snow to find the facilities ...

After arrival and some initial drying-out, we went for a walk and faced some of the local wildlife ...

.... before settling down to cook moose-steak dinner on our camp stove. C has discovered a novel hammer-to-cook technology as she is demonstrating here by tenderizing a moose steak and also by breaking up a few hazelnuts:

While it was sad that we had to leave again yesterday, I am somewhat glad to be back in a country where the daylight keeps sensible hours. Over the weekend, it got dusk around 11pm and apparently got fully light again by 2am (and S said it has gotten darker already!). I am not fully convinced by this concept and I also am not entirely sure about the opposite situation in winter. Other than that, Trondheim seems to be a great place to live and visit - we'll be back!
