Adventures in BC (the Back of Cloyne)

Following the post-wedding brunch in Toronto, we collected ourselves and did the four-hour drive to BC (Back of Cloyne) to visit my "other" family. Here is the first impression from down at the lake, I totally forgot how beautiful things are around here.

We were quick to rediscover the other important aspect about the month of June in this area - bugs. Some nights (and days) you simply get eaten alive unless you stay inside. Here is an image of the local internet connection: definitely an upgrade from the dial up that was in place when I originally lived here some 10 years ago ...

C and I stayed a whole week with T+M and managed to see quite a lot of the things around here. First, there was a 25km-canoe trip across four lakes, with two small portages in it (lesson: buy a light canoe).

The image in the centre is a 400-900(?) year old native painting on Bon Echo Rock that we saw on the way. These days you need to bring your own boat if you come during the middle of the week to check out the old paintings. The trip seriously wore us out, I guess we don't go canoeing enough in England.

Anyway, a second tour with T+M lead to the 1000-Islands near Kingston and across to Prince Edward County to do some wine and cheese tasting. It turned out that Ice Cidar is quite yummy! Not very many images from that tour but it is very much worthwhile. Finally, we managed to convince T to take some more time and show us around Skootamatta Lake - a whole afternoon out on the water. Here is most of the crew:
