Arran

In lieu of a summer holiday, C and yours truly took ourselves off to the Isle of Arran for a week in October. We knew ahead of time that it wasn't going to be the greatest of weather happenings, so we booked ourselves into the Tigh-na-Blair apartment in Corrie, 10 mins from the ferry. A wonderful place to stay if you are ever up this way - looking out on the water there is an ever-changing interesting view even in the foulest of weathers.

Anyway, it was a great week. Lots of walking (everyday), lots of rain (everyday, bring good clothes), some hail (only a few times) and a few hours of sunshine (only once). Needless to say we used the sunshine for some of the excellent mountain hiking and just got off the technically interesting bit when it started to bucket down again.

Here are some random images from the week, first is a jumping photo in full rain gear:

Then there is C highlighting some 300-million-year-old footprints by a giant millipede. A very random (but somewhat scientifically minded) person renting a cabin in the middle of nowhere had provided the description to find these things:

Then, there is the totally weird habit of tying boats to sheep's legs - mind you the fact that the sheep are apparently waiting to be picked off by a ferry is another thing altogether.

Not to miss on Arran are the numerous monuments left from the Iron age, such as this stone circle in a large meadow. Quite impressive!

And, finally, it was rutting season for red deer. Many bucks could be seen collecting their harem of does. Well, except of course for this one. He was just calling out from the side of the road, quite noisily, while an entire party of girls was hanging out half a mile away and was more interested in dinner than in his horny horniness...
