Hmmmmm, something went wrong here.
Christmas lunch in the snow - no problem there, that was planned and well executed during a wonderful day up near Mount Hood. But the thing about wine and cheese in the car???? (Note that the wine glasses are only there for show, the car being on a backroad in the US state of Oregon meant of course that the glasses remained dry and the cork in the bottle.)
Let me try to relate these happenings. First of all we unpacked our stockings, leaving the main set of presents for later. Then, on account of the weather, we headed for Mount Hood and went for a walk followed by some nice hot chocolate up in "Timberline lodge". Then, finally, we wanted to go home to unwrap the remaining prezzies, cook some ham and generally enjoy our Christmas day evening. Bah. Little did we know.
There was a shooting on the highway home and the police had decided to lock off one of the main highways in (and out) of Portland. This of course created a serious traffic jam, but did not yet cause a major problem as there was a small backroad going around the problematic area. However. Just before we managed to pass the backroad, a power line and a tree went across it, making passage somewhat difficult.
So I guess my alternative caption for the second image is: "Waiting for the SWAT team to track the killer and for the power company to clear the road."
Note added in proof: It took us four hours extra. Christmas supper was quickly cooked at home and the remaining presents opened. Now off to bed, as tomorrow will be a travel day which was made all the more interesting by an attempted terrorist attack in Detroit earlier today. Fun and games!
